I have been playing the flute for over 20 years and have been taught professionally. I am passionate about teaching the flute to all levels and helping each student develop their musical awareness.
The flute is one of the most magical instruments out there. It is closely related to singing. I really love how quickly the atmosphere can change when a flute resounds in a room as it echoes the emotions and feelings of the player.

What are the requirements?
You will need a flute and a music book that will be on your enrolment confirmation. I strongly recommend hiring a flute from MusicWorks Epsom. You can hire on a monthly, term, school year or annual basis. Please make sure you let them know that Melanie Wilton Music referred you.
It is suggested that you also get a music stand and download a metronome app.
What am I going to get out of the lessons?
You will learn how to create your own beautiful tone.
As you progress through the levels, you will learn how to read all notes and understand different types of rhythm.
You will be able to turn a piece of written music into a story for people to listen to and enjoy.
What is the recommended age for learning the flute?
I teach flute to students from 7 – 107. However, just be aware that flutes can be heavy, so some younger children may struggle with holding a flute for the duration of a lesson. If your child has not played a wind instrument before, it is recommended that they learn the recorder for a term.
